Lol, el ryan hart ha montado un pollo por el facebook.qué ha pasado?
So folks, I wasn’t even going to mention any of this, but one thing after the next after the next has just compelled me to talk to someone about it as I’m really not feeling good.
So here’s the deal!
Ngamers in Spain got in touch with me some months ago through some guy. He explained to me that they would like to have me over at their event which was in a few months time as a special guest. The event would be a multi game event but they would definitely be featuring Super Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6 in which I should take part. So, I checked my schedule for July and I was free so I told them I could be there. They agreed I’d get flight and accommodation covered and be interviewed by various gaming press, etc.
After that they sent me through a short document with basic questions to be filled out about myself for their event info. My name, age, favourite games, blah blah. I filled that out and sent it back and I was then told I would be contacted soon to discuss flights and times with them. I waited but that call never came. Then some weeks later one day I was randomly on messenger and the guy comes online and says “Oh, I’ve been looking for you for ages, I thought you weren’t coming to the tournament anymore, where have you been”? I was like “Dude, why didn’t you just email me”? He was like “Oh yeah”. Anyway after that, he basically told me that NOW things had changed since they’d assumed I wasn’t coming. And now they would be holding an online qualifier for the winner to join the tournament imstead.
So basically if I still wanted to come to the tournament I had to enter (and win). In my head I just couldn’t understand it, how did it get from being an invited guest getting flown out and interviewed to being one of many in a tournament selection? I asked what had happened and how things had changed so much and the answers were so insignificant. “Yeah, we just thought you weren’t coming anymore”. As that made no sense, I questioned how they had arrived at this conclusion and asked why they didn’t email me any queries like anyone would. He just didn’t seem to get that all he had to do was just email me. We had emailed in the past so it’s not like it was a new concept for him.
Anyway so we talk a bit and he says he’ll ask Ngamers what the deal is. So then I wait to hear from him and within a few minutes he gets back to me, and all of a sudden the online qualifier idea is gone and now they were checking flights for me. It was all a bit weird at the time as things that were said just didn’t add up.
Eventually my flight gets booked and Im back on track, although now I’m actually not really sure if I want to go after all the stress up to that point. I only decided I would still go because I didn’t want to let them down as I had originally given them my word on being available for the event.
So time goes by and I get a few email reminders from them like “Don’t forget to check in online first”! and stuff like that. Then the day before my flight I was just randomly on messenger again and I catch up with a Spanish friend of mine who is a top Street Fighter player in Spain, his name is Ricky TTT. I ask him if he’s coming to the tournament and he’s like "oh, it got cancelled so no one is going now". He actually told me that Ngamers cancelled it themselves as well.
I go quickly back to my inbox to see if I have any new emails but there was nothing, so I thought nothing of it. I emailed the staff guy who had been corresponding with me the whole time to ask him to confirm if the SSF4 tournament was indeed cancelled and I got no reply (emailed him couple times as well).
Later on I get an email from the driver that is going to pick me up saying that I have two choices when I arrive at the airport, basically I have to wait there for four hours for some other guy (who I don’t even know) who will be arriving then and must use the same car I’m going in. So I can either wait at the airport for the guy or go into town then come back for him later. Again in my opinion this is just bad planning if you ask, surely there was a better than making one person have to wait 4 hours in really hot weather conditions.
Anyway, today finally comes and I get the flight. Woohoo, finally on the plane, surely it’s all smooth sailing (or flying) from here right? WRONG!!! Can you believe this? I finally get here, do the 4 hour wait and stuff, drive 2 hours to the venue only to have the one of the organisers tell me that the Super Street Fighter IV tournament has been….CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!! Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuuuuun! I mean, just what exactly am I supposed to answer the guy?
Can any of you imagine if you showed up for EVO or SVB or Bushido and they told you when you arrived that it’s been cancelled. I really was in mini shock for a few moments, I could not believe that Ricky was right. I mean, I knew maybe he was but something inside didn’t want to believe it, something just wanted it to be all a mistake, a misprint, a misread sentence, anything that would mean it wasn’t true. But yet here I am standing in front of the organiser with the truth being laid out in front of me. I mean it’s not the end of the world or anything but I was already sacrificing two other tournaments just to be here and now they are telling me the SSF4 event isn’t happening.
Tournament training wise this is really bad for me, I have EVO and SVB just around the corner, I really can’t afford to miss events in this way and I’m only here because I wanted to be loyal to them because I’d given my word but now I feel like it’s just come back to haunt me.
Anyway, as we leave the venue they tell me “Oh, by the way you’re sharing your room with him” and there is another guy from Holland there who had also been unwillingly separated from his friends that he flew in with for the Super Smash Bros tourney. I mean how retarded is that? Especially as the organisation knew they were all coming together and wanted to stay together. I think that if they have to do these things they should at least explain stuff first. Fortunately the Dutch guy turned out to be cool and he’s probably the only thing saving me from total insanity right now. But whether he’s cool or not is beside the point, they should still have not assumed anything and should have asked or told us beforehand.
So then they drive us to this place in the countryside, basically in the middle of absolutely nowhere with nothing but trees and bushes which is like 40 mins by car from the venue and has nobody in sight anywhere and they just leave us here. They didn’t explain the plans for tomorrow even though we asked, they didn’t give a proper explanation for anything actually. They don’t have a single person who can speak English properly either which I think is really bad considering they invited so many English speaking players. We're actually totally helpless here, vulnerable too. It's quite frightening if you think about it like that, had this been a setup for something more sinister, we'd be finished! We're staying in some area called Cuenca, and this hostel place is called Valde Cabras. I'm happy that at least they have internet here!
Guys, Im so frustrated right now and it’s lame to have to talk down about an event or happening but really Im so lost for what to do. I also feel a bit cheated in a way because now they still get to use me for all their media, tv, interviews and promotional stuff they’ve promised everyone and that's great for them meanwhile the tournament which I came for won’t happen.
Noticias frescas:Si ya me olía algo así, me encanta Cuenca =D
las pools son al mejor de 1 LOL.
